Apple Workplace Rules Violate US Labour Law, Agency Finds

Apple maintains workplace policies that unlawfully discourage employees from discussing working conditions, a US labour agency has found.

The National Labor Relations Board will issue a complaint targeting the policies and claiming Apple executives made comments that stymied worker organising unless the company settles first, an agency official said on Monday in an email reviewed by Reuters.

The official had sent the email to Ashley Gjovik, a former Apple senior engineering manager who filed complaints against the company in 2021.

The NLRB investigates charges filed by workers and unions and decides whether to issue formal complaints against companies. The agency can seek to strike down workplace policies and require employers to notify workers of legal violations.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment. The company has said it takes worker complaints seriously and thoroughly investigates them.

An NLRB spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Gjovik in an email on Tuesday said she hoped the development will spur more Apple workers to speak up about working conditions and to organise.

In her complaints, Gjovik said various Apple rules, including those relating to confidentiality and surveillance policies, deter employees from discussing issues such as pay equity and sex discrimination with each other and the media.

Gjovik also cited a 2021 email from Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook that allegedly sought to stop workers from speaking to the press and said "people who leak confidential information do not belong here."

Many tech companies have strict confidentiality policies designed to protect trade secrets.

US labour law prohibits policies that could discourage workers from exercising their right to band together to improve working conditions.

Apple is facing several pending NLRB complaints, including one claiming the tech giant unlawfully required workers at an Atlanta retail store to attend anti-union meetings. Apple has denied wrongdoing.

Citroen India, Jio-Bp Partner to Facilitate Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, Services

Citroen India on Friday announced a strategic partnership with Jio-Bp, a fuels and mobility joint venture between Reliance Industries (RIL) and bp, to build electric vehicle infrastructure and services across its network.

"Jio-Bp will install DC fast-chargers across Citroen's key dealership network and workshops across the country in phases," Jio-Bp and Citroen India said in a joint statement.

These chargers will also be open to the entire universe of EV car customers to help boost EV adoption among consumers, according to the statement.

With the New Citroen e-C3 all-electric scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2023, the JV said this partnership would ensure Jio-bp's charging infrastructure network is accessible via the My Citroen Connect app.

Jio-Bp currently operates a rapidly expanding network of EV charging and swapping stations under the Jio-Bp pulse brand.

The entire range of Jio-Bp pulse offerings can be accessed via its mobile app helps customers easily locate EV charging stations in their vicinity, and facilitates digital payments amongst others, the statement noted.

Driven by the vision to be among India's largest EV charging networks, Jio-Bp said it was creating an electric mobility ecosystem that will benefit stakeholders across the EV value chain and was expanding its Jio-bp pulse-branded EV charging network by setting up charging facilities at multiple touch points within cities and major highways to ensure smooth intra-city and inter-city commutes for EV owners.

Astronomers Discover Milky Way Galaxy's Most-Distant Stars

Astronomers have detected in the stellar halo that represents the Milky Way's outer limits a group of stars more distant from Earth than any known within our own galaxy — almost halfway to a neighboring galaxy.

The researchers said these 208 stars inhabit the most remote reaches of the Milky Way's halo, a spherical stellar cloud dominated by the mysterious invisible substance called dark matter that makes itself known only through its gravitational influence. The furthest of them is 1.08 million light years from Earth. A light year is the distance light travels in a year, 5.9 trillion miles (9.5 trillion km).

These stars, spotted using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on Hawaii's Mauna Kea mountain, are part of a category of stars called RR Lyrae that are relatively low mass and typically have low abundances of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium. The most distant one appears to have a mass about 70 percent that of our sun. No other Milky Way stars have been confidently measured farther away than these.

The stars that populate the outskirts of the galactic halo can be viewed as stellar orphans, probably originating in smaller galaxies that later collided with the larger Milky Way.

"Our interpretation about the origin of these distant stars is that they are most likely born in the halos of dwarf galaxies and star clusters which were later merged - or more straightforwardly, cannibalised — by the Milky Way," said Yuting Feng, an astronomy doctoral student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, who led the study, presented this week at an American Astronomical Society meeting in Seattle.

"Their host galaxies have been gravitationally shredded and digested, but these stars are left at that large distance as debris of the merger event," Feng added.

The Milky Way has grown over time through such calamities.

"The larger galaxy grows by eating smaller galaxies — by eating its own kind," said study co-author Raja GuhaThakurta, UC Santa Cruz's chair of astronomy and astrophysics.

Containing an inner and outer layer, the Milky Way's halo is vastly larger than the galaxy's main disk and central bulge that are teeming with stars. The galaxy, with a supermassive black hole at its center about 26,000 light years from Earth, contains perhaps 100 billion–400 billion stars including our sun, which resides in one of the four primary spiral arms that make up the Milky Way's disk. The halo contains about 5 percent of the galaxy's stars.

Dark matter, which dominates the halo, makes up most of the universe's mass and is thought to be responsible for its basic structure, with its gravity influencing visible matter to come together and form stars and galaxies.

The halo's remote outer edge is a poorly understood region of the galaxy. These newly identified stars are almost half the distance to the Milky Way's neighboring Andromeda galaxy.

"We can see that the suburbs of the Andromeda halo and the Milky Way halo are really extended - and are almost 'back-to-back,'" Feng said.

The search for life beyond the Earth focuses on rocky planets akin to Earth orbiting in what is called the "habitable zone" around stars. More than 5,000 planets beyond our solar system, called exoplanets, already have been discovered.

"We don't know for sure, but each of these outer halo stars should be about as likely to have planets orbiting them as the sun and other sun-like stars in the Milky Way," GuhaThakurta said.

Crypto Crime Hits Record $20 Billion in 2022: Chainalysis Report

Illicit use of cryptocurrencies hit a record $20.1 billion (nearly Rs. 1,63,217 crore) last year as transactions involving companies targeted by US sanctions skyrocketed, data from blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis showed on Thursday. 

The cryptocurrency market floundered in 2022, as risk appetite diminished and various crypto firms collapsed. Investors were left with large losses and regulators stepped up calls for more consumer protection.

Even as overall crypto transaction volumes fell, the value of crypto transactions related to illicit activity rose for the second year running, Chainalysis said.

Transactions associated with sanctioned entities increased more than 100,000-fold in 2022 and made up 44 percent of last year's illicit activity, Chainalysis said. 

Funds received by the Russian exchange Garantex, which was sanctioned by the US Treasury Department in April, accounted for "much of 2022's illicit volume", Chainalysis said, adding that most of that activity is "likely Russian users using a Russian exchange." A spokesperson for Chainalysis said wallets are tagged as "illicit" if they are part of a sanctioned entity.

Garantex did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

The United States also imposed sanctions last year on cryptocurrency mixing services Blender and Tornado Cash, which it said were being used by hackers, including from North Korea, to launder billions of dollars worth of proceeds from their cyber crimes.

The volume of stolen crypto funds rose 7 percent last year, but other illicit crypto transactions including those related to scams, ransomware, terrorism financing and human trafficking, saw volumes fall.

"The market downturn may be one reason for this," Chainalysis said. "We've found in the past that crypto scams, for instance, take in less revenue during bear markets."

Chainalysis said its $20.1 billion estimate only includes activity recorded on blockchain, and excludes "off-chain" crime such as fraudulent accounting by crypto firms.

The figure also excludes when cryptocurrencies are the proceeds of non-crypto-related crimes, such as when cryptocurrency is used as a means of payment in drug trafficking, Chainalysis said.

"We have to stress that this is a lower bound estimate — our measure of illicit transaction volume is sure to grow over time," the report said, noting that the figure for 2021 was revised to $18 billion (nearly Rs. 1,46,120 crore) from $14 billion (nearly Rs. 1,13,650 crore) as more scams were discovered.

US Air Travel Services Restores Gradually to Life After FAA Computer Outage

US flights were slowly resuming departures and a ground stop was lifted after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) scrambled to fix a system outage overnight that had forced a halt to all US departing flights.

More than 6,000 flights were delayed and nearly 1,000 canceled according to the FlightAware website as officials said it will take hours to recover from the halt. The numbers were still rising.

The cause of the problem with a pilot-alerting system, which delayed thousands of flights in the United States, was unclear, but US officials said they had so far found no evidence of a cyberattack.

The outage occurred at a typically slow time after the holiday travel season, but demand remains strong as travel continues to recover to near pre-pandemic levels.

"Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the US following an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews. The ground stop has been lifted. We continue to look into the cause of the initial problem," the FAA tweeted.

The number of flights impacted rose even after the ground stop was canceled. One issue airlines are facing is trying to get planes in and out of crowded gates, which is causing further delays.

At an airport in Greenville, South Carolina, Justin Kennedy abandoned a work trip to nearby Charlotte. He said confusion reigned as airline employees weren't aware what the FAA was saying, and many passengers were initially unaware of the delays.

"I sat in a Chick-fil-A dining area that had a good view of the TSA exit," the 30-year-old information technology employee said. "I saw at least four people sprinting to gates because they thought they were going to miss their flight, only to come back to the food court, out of breath."

Ripple Effects

Captain Chris Torres, vice president of the Allied Pilots Association, said the outage could impact traffic through Friday.

"This thing was lifted at 9 am Eastern Time (7.30 pm IST). That doesn't mean the problem stops at 9 am This is going to cause ripple effects," said Torres, whose members fly for American Airlines. "The end result of this is going to be very similar to big weather events."

The FAA had earlier ordered airlines to pause all domestic departures after its pilot alerting system crashed and the agency had to perform a hard reset around 2 am (12.30 pm IST), officials said. Flights already in the air were allowed to continue to their destinations.

US President Joe Biden ordered the Transportation Department to investigate and said the cause of the failure was unknown. Asked if a cyber attack was behind the outage, Biden told reporters, "We don't know."

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg pledged a "process to determine root causes and recommend next steps."

Shares of US carriers initially fell in Wednesday's premarket trading, but most rallied after the market opened to positive territory as flights resumed.

After dropping more the 19 percent last year — its third consecutive year of decline — the S&P 500 airlines index has gotten off to a strong start this year, up 15.5 percent, as travellers return to the skies.

Southwest Airlines shares were flat, while Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and American Airlines shares rose. JetBlue and Spirit each rose about 2 percent.

A trade group representing the US travel industry, including airlines, called the FAA system failure "catastrophic."

"America's transportation network desperately needs significant upgrades," Geoff Freeman, president of the US Travel Association, said in a statement. "We call on federal policymakers to modernise our vital air travel infrastructure.”

'Completely Unacceptable'

For US travelers flying great distances, the alternatives are few. Driving distances are too great, and the country's passenger rail network is thin compared to those in Europe and Asia.

Senate Commerce Committee chair Maria Cantwell, a Democrat, said the panel would investigate. “We will be looking into what caused this outage and how redundancy plays a role in preventing future outages," she said.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz called the failure "completely unacceptable" and said the issue should lead to reforms as part of the FAA reauthorization due by September.

FAA's system outage comes weeks after an operational meltdown at Southwest at the end of last year left thousands stranded. A severe winter storm right before Christmas, coupled with the Texas-based carrier's dated technology, led to over 16,000 flight cancellations.

The DOT, FAA's parent agency, criticized Southwest's failures and pressured the airline to compensate passengers. There is no legal requirement that the FAA must compensate passengers for flight delays caused by agency computer issues.

The FAA suffered another significant computer issue on January 2 that led to significant delays in Florida flights. A problem with the functioning of a system known as the En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) used to control air traffic prompted the FAA to issue a ground stop order, slowing traffic into Florida airports.

A NOTAM is a notice containing information essential to personnel concerned with flight operations but not known far enough in advance to be publicized by other means. A ground stop is an air traffic control measure that slows or halts aircraft at a given airport.

A total of 21,464 US flights were scheduled to depart Wednesday with a capacity of nearly 2.9 million passengers, data from Cirium showed.

Rodney Allen was on his way with friends to vacation in Puerto Rico from Cincinnati but got stranded in Newark.

"Once we landed, passengers on the plane were saying flights were grounded," the 25-year-old entrepreneur said. He still had the option to check in to his flight to Puerto Rico, but his friends had been offered travel credits.

In the trailer, Sidharth plays a RAW operative who travels to Pakistan to learn more about that nation's nuclear capabilities and whether they are planning a bomb with India as its target. On his mission, Sidharth marries a blind Pakistani woman, played by Rashmika, after falling in love with her in order to establish his identity in the nation and his cover.

During his mission in Pakistan, Sidharth works as tailor, plumber, servant, among others, to make sure his country get the access to all the information. 

Set in the 1970s, Mission Majnu is a patriotic thriller with a love story at its core, showcasing one of India's most covert operations of taking down Pakistan's efforts of a nuclear attack.

Directed by Shantanu Bagchi and produced by RSVP and GBA, Mission Majnu is all set to premiere exclusively on the OTT platform Netflix from January 20, 2023.

Apart from this, Sidharth will also be seen in the upcoming action-thriller Yodha opposite Disha Patani, which is all set to hit the theatres on July 7, 2023.

He also has an upcoming web series Indian Police Force, which will stream on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.

Motorola Defy Rugged Smartphone to Get Bullitt's Two-Way Satellite Messaging Service: Report

Motorola will bring satellite messaging service on its upcoming Defy rugged smartphone in Q1 2023. The company has partnered with Bullitt to bring satellite connectivity to its Android devices. Satellite connectivity was introduced by Apple with iPhone 14 series. The feature on iPhone 14 as well as iPhone 14Pro model allows users to make an emergency call and send SOS messages even when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi connection. Now, Motorola is also planning to bring this feature to the Android eco-system, as announced at CES 2023.

According to a report by Android Authority, Bullitt Satellite Connect's satellite messaging service in Motorola phones will enable users to send and receive text messages, send SOS requests, and share their location without using cellular or Wi-Fi connection. The company has confirmed to launch this feature with upcoming Motorola Defy rugged 5G smartphone. However, there have been no other official details about the said smartphone.

As per the report, to use this service on Motorola Defy rugged 5G smartphone, users will need to install free Bullitt Satellite Messenger app. Initially, the service will only support text and emoji, which will later extend to images, audio, and video support. Bullitt added that those who will have the free Android or iOS application installed on their handset will be able to receive and react to messages sent from Bullitt Satellite Messenger over IP or satellite service. On the other hand, the users without the app will get the messages as an SMS, however, they won't be able to respond to it.

Additionally, those who won't have a phone with satellite connectivity support will be able to use the app via Wi-Fi or a cellular connection.

A Bullitt representative has been quoted as saying that SOS on Android will be launched in phased manner. Initially, it will be made available in Europe and North America in Q1 2023, and then it will reach in Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America, in the first half of 2023. Other countries will get this feature in the second half of the year.

CES 2023: Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon Satellite; Two-Way Satellite-Based Messaging for Android Phones to Arrive Soon

Qualcomm, American semiconductor manufacturer behind Snapdragon chipsets on the mobile platform, has announced satellite-based two-way messaging feature for smartphones at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2023). The company's Snapdragon Satellite solution will allow users to send and receive emergency messages, SMS, and texts on other messaging apps on Android smartphones globally. The feature will first come to devices based on the company's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. A similar feature is available on Apple's latest iPhones, which lets users send emergency SOS messages via a satellite connection.

The company has partnered with satellite telecommunications company Iridium to provide the service to users around the globe. Snapdragon Satellite will be powered by Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF Systems and will utilise Iridium's constellation of satellites orbiting earth, enabling manufacturers to offer the service worldwide, according to Qualcomm.

It's worth noting that Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite feature is currently only available in USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, and Ireland.

Qualcomm's satellite-based messaging service is expected to launch in select regions sometime in the second half of 2023. The company is also planning to expand the feature beyond smartphones to laptops, tablets, vehicles, and IoT devices. It intends for manufacturers and app developers to develop proprietary features and applications based on the capabilities of Snapdragon Satellite.

Garmin, which makes popular GPS-based activity tracking smartwatches, has already said it intends to collaborate with Qualcomm to bring the feature to its devices. Garmin watches have their own SOS feature, Garmin Response, which activates when a user presses the SOS button, connecting them to the Garming Response team for rescue or aid.

Snapdragon Satellite feature promises to offer “pole-to-pole" coverage for satellite-based two-way messaging in remote, rural, and offshore locations. In addition to emergency use, the service could also be used for recreational purposes. There is currently no word from the company on whether smartphones in India will offer support for Snapdragon Satellite, when it arrives later this year.

In addition to unveiling a raft of new gaming laptops, MSI has also updated its models aimed at professional content creators and those who need the performance but not necessarily the style of most gamer-focused hardware. These laptops feature Intel's new 13th Gen Core CPUs and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs. The creator models also typically use Nvidia's Studio drivers which are optimised and certified for content creation workflows and apps. The new MSI Creator Z17 HX Studio and Creator Z16 HX Studio feature Intel's 13th Gen HX-series Core CPUs, up to the Core i9-13950HX with 24 cores, which is said to deliver desktop-class performance on the go. They also feature a new vapour chamber cooler. GPU options go up to the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 with 8GB of GDDR6 RAM. Both models support up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM and feature one PCIe 5.0 X4 slot for a high-performance NVMe SSD.

The larger Creator Z17HX Studio has a 17.3-inch QHD+ 16:10 2560x1200-pixel IPS-class panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and 100 percent DCI-P3 colour coverage. The slightly more portable Z16 HX Studio features a 16-inch 120Hz panel with the same resolution and other specifications. The two weigh 2.49kg and 2.35kg respectively.

Other features include Thunderbolt 4, an SD Express card slot, an IR webcam, fingerprint sensor, per-key RGB LED backlighting, and a quad-speaker sound system on both models. Prices start at $2,999 (approximately Rs. 2,48,225 before taxes) and $2,899 (approximately Rs. 2,39,950) respectively.

As for the thin-and-light Prestige series, MSI has introduced refreshed MSI Prestige 14 Evo and Prestige 16 Evo models as well as the all-new MSI Prestige 13 Evo. The latter is what MSI is calling the lightest laptop in MSI's entire lineup, weighing only 990g thanks to an aluminium alloy chassis, while still delivering up to 15 hours of battery life.

The larger two models feature up to a Core i7-13700H CPU while the ultraportable Prestige 13 Evo gets a Core i7-1360P CPU. All three rely on Intel's Iris Xe integrated graphics but MSI also offers another model, the Prestige 16 Studio, with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 discrete GPU. All models have 16GB of soldered LPDDR5 RAM and ship with Windows 11. They all feature white backlit keyboards, IR webcams, fingerprint sensors, and microSD card slots.

The MSI Modern series gets updated hardware and new colour options to keep things fresh. There's also a new MSI Summit Flip Evo model with a 13.4-inch full-HD touchscreen.

In addition to laptops, MSI has announced its new MSI Pen 2 stylus, which uses the MPP 2.6 standard to ensure compatibility with a variety of laptops, and boasts of haptic feedback as well as 4,096-level pressure sensitivity. It can also work as a traditional writing implement so you don't have to switch what you're holding to take notes on paper.

CES 2023: MSI Gaming Laptop Portfolio Refreshed With 13th Gen Intel CPUs, Nvidia RTX 40 Series GPUs

MSI on Wednesday announced that it has overhauled its entire gaming portfolio with the latest Nvidia RTX 40 series GPUs and 13th Gen Intel CPUs. The firm says all the heat pipes have been redesigned to include shared pipes, dedicated pipes, and VRAM-exclusive pipes for maximum performance. MSI has released over 10 new designs in its gaming series and some of the laptops such as the Raider GE, Vector GP, and Stealth series have been equipped with 16:10, 240Hz Quad-HD+ displays. MSI is yet to announce pricing details for the new laptops, but the firm has revealed that the new range will be available in India soon.

MSI Titan GT series, Raider GE series, Vector GP series specifications, features

The newly announced MSI Titan GT and MSI Raider GE can be configured with the top-of-the-line Intel Core i9-13980HX processors and up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU. These laptops also feature MSI's OverBoost Ultra technology that is said to be able to push the CPU and graphics to a total of 250W of power or support 5.2GHz frequency across eight P-cores on the CPU, depending on the workload.

The Titan GT is also said to have the world's first 4K Mini LED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, and can deliver up to 1000 nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the MSI Vector GP series features a 17.3-inch QHD IPS display with a 240Hz refresh rate. This laptop can be configured with up to an Intel Core i9-13900H CPU and up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU.

MSI Stealth series specifications, features

The MSI Stealth series will be available in 14-inch, 15-inch, 16-inch and 17-inch screen sizes. The MSI Stealth 14 Studio and Stealth 16 Studio are new laptops that feature magnesium-aluminium alloy bodies for low weight and a slim design.

The Stealth 16 Studio comes with a trilateral Dynaudio six-speaker sound system. The Stealth 17, 16, and 14 Studio laptops are also Nvidia Studio validated and are geared towards content creation. The MSI Stealth Studio 15 features a 240Hz OLED display and a quick 0.2s response time. It also supports a 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut.

MSI Cyborg, Pulse, Katana, Sword series specifications, features

According to the company, the MSI Cyborg 15 is a brand-new entry-level gaming laptop featuring a translucent chassis design, allowing you to see some of the components inside. This laptop can be configured with up to an Intel Core i7-12650H and up to an Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU.

The MSI Katana, MSI Sword and MSI Pulse series have also been updated with high refresh rate displays and feature Nvidia's GeForce RTX 40 series CPUs.

CES 2023: Asus ROG Gaming Laptops, Desktops Refreshed With Latest Intel, AMD, Nvidia Hardware

Asus ROG Zephyrus M16, Zephyrus G16, Zephyrus G14, ROG Flow X13, Flow X16, and Flow X13 gaming laptops were launched by the company at Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2023. The firm unveiled the refreshed lineup of its gaming laptops and desktops under their Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand on Tuesday. These include the Asus ROG Strix SCAR and ROG Strix G series gaming laptops. The manufacturer also introduced the latest versions of the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16, Zephyrus G16, Zephyrus G14, ROG Flow X13, Flow X16, and Flow X13 gaming laptops. Additionally, Asus also launched the ROG Strix G22CH compact gaming desktop, featuring 13th Gen Intel Core i9 processor and the latest Nvidia RTX GPU.

The new series of gaming laptops and monitors was announced by Asus at CES 2023, along with a lineup of gaming products and devices under the ROG brand, including gaming monitors, mice, keyboards, and chairs. The company, however, is yet to reveal the pricing and availability of its new products.

Asus ROG Strix SCAR, Strix G specifications

The latest Asus ROG Strix SCAR series of laptops launched in 16-, 17-, and 18-inch display models. The Asus ROG Strix SCAR 18 is the first-ever ROG laptop to feature an 18-inch display, with 2,560x1,660 quad-HD+ resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. The 16-inch and 18-inch models of the laptop are equipped with up to 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processors, while the ROG Strix SCAR 17 comes with an AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 processor.

The ROG Strix SCAR 18 and the ROG Strix Scar 16 feature up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU, with up to 64 GB DDR5 RAM and up to 4 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. Connectivity options on the two laptops include Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2. The Strix SCAR 17 sports a 17-inch quad-HD (2,560x1,440) display with 240 Hz refresh rate. It also includes up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, up to 64 GB DDR5 RAM and up to 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage.

The ROG Strix G series includes the ROG Strix G16, Strix G17, and Strix G18. The 16- and 18-inch models are equipped with up to 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU, up to 32 GB DDR5 RAM, and up to 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. The two ROG Strix models also come with a 64Whr or 90Whr battery, with 100W fast charging via USB Type-C port. Connectivity options also include Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2. The ROG Strix G17 is equipped with up to AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 CPU, up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, up to 32 GB DDR5 RAM, and up to 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, Zephyrus G16, Zephyrus M16 specifications

Asus is also refreshing its popular Zephyrus series of gaming laptops. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 comes with a 14-inch display with quad-HD+ resolution and 165 Hz refresh rate or full-HD+ resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate configurations. The ROG Zephyrus G14 comes with up to AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 processor and up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU options. The laptop packs a 76Whr battery under the hood as well.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, on the other hand, is powered by up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor, accompanied by up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU. The Zephyrus G16 sports a 16-inch display with quad-HD+ (2,560x1600) resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. It also includes a 90Whr battery.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 comes with up to 2,560x1,600 quad-HD+ display with 240 Hz refresh rate. The laptop is powered by up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor and up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU. It also includes up to 64 GB DDR5 RAM and up to 2TB SSD storage.

Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 specifications

The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is a dual display setup comprising of a 16-inch Mini LED panel and a 4K touchscreen. For the 2023 refresh of the laptop, it has been upgraded with AMD and Nvidia's latest hardware. The laptop features up to AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 processor, up to to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, up to 64 GB DDR5 RAM, up to 4TB SSD storage.

The ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 sports a 16-inch panel with 2,560x1,600 pixel resolution and 240Hz refresh rate.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 is a 360-degree convertible gaming laptop tablet powered by AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 CPU and up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU. The laptop comes with an optional XG Mobile external GPU with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series onboard. The laptop comes with a 13.4-inch scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass DXC touch-display with quad-HD+ and 165Hz and full-HD+ and 120Hz refresh rate configurations. It also packs a 75Whr battery, 100W USB Type-C fast charging, and a 130W AC adapter.

Meanwhile, the Asus ROG Flow X16 features a similar 360-degree design and features a 16-inch display with quad-HD+ resolution, 240 Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, 16:10 aspect ratio, and 1100 nits of peak brightness. The laptop runs on a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor, with up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD storage, and up to 16GB DDR5-4800 RAM. It also includes an HDMI 2.1 port, and a USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 4.

The refreshed Asus ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet comes with up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. The 13.4-inch laptop sports a quad-HD+ 165Hz panel with 16:10 aspect ratio, and 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage. The display is a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass touchscreen. The two-in-one laptop tablet is 12.96mm thick and weighs 1.1 kilograms.

Alienware on Tuesday unveiled several new gaming products at CES 2023. These include the company's latest Alienware m18, Alienware m16, Alienware x16, and Alienware x14 R2 gaming laptops. They come with the revamped Alienware Command Center 6.0 for improved stability, navigation, and performance control. The company also took the wraps off its flagship Alienware Aurora R15 gaming PC, which will come with AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors. The Alienware AW2524H gaming monitor with up to a 500Hz refresh rate was also announced on Tuesday. The company claims this to be the fastest refresh rate featured on an IPS gaming monitor.

Alienware m18, Alienware m16 pricing, availability

The newly announced Alienware m18 will arrive in Q1 2023 with high-end Intel and Nvidia configurations starting at $2,899 (roughly Rs. 2,40,000). Entry-level models beginning at $2,099 (roughly Rs. 1,75,000) will arrive later. AMD-powered variants are expected to arrive in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, the high-end Alienware m16 models powered by Intel and Nvidia will begin at $2,599 (roughly Rs. 2,15,000) and arrive in the first quarter. More configurations starting at $1,899 (roughly Rs. 1,60,000) will arrive later. Meanwhile, the AMD variants are likely to arrive in Q2 2023.

Alienware x16, Alienware x14 R2 pricing, availability

The top-of-the-line Alienware x16 Intel and Nvidia-powered models will arrive in Q1 2023 with a starting price of $$3,099 (roughly Rs. 2,60,000). Additional configurations starting at $2,149.99 (roughly Rs. 1,80,000) to come later. Its AMD-powered variants will arrive in Q2.

On the other hand, the Alienware x14 R2 will be available in Intel and Nvidia-powered entry-level models in Q1. This Alienware gaming laptop will have a starting price of $1,799 (roughly Rs. 1,50,000).

The Alienware Aurora R15 gaming PC with AMD Ryzen 7000 or 13th Gen Intel Core 65W desktop processors will begin at $1,749 (roughly Rs. 1,45,000). Other variants with AMD Radeon 7000 series graphics options will be unveiled later this year. Meanwhile, the Alienware AW2524H gaming monitor is expected to arrive in Q1 2023.

The Alienware m18 sports an 18-inch QHD+ (2,560x1,600 pixels) ComfortView Plus display, whereas the Alienware m16 features a 16-inch QHD+ ComfortView Plus screen. These displays offer a 165Hz refresh rate and a 3ms response time. They also come with support for Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync technologies. These gaming laptops are powered by 13th Gen Intel Core processors paired with a dedicated Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 series graphics card.

In terms of connectivity, these laptops get an RJ45 ethernet port, headset jack, USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 output, a mini-Display port, and an SD card slot. These Alienware gaming laptops feature up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 9TB of onboard storage. The Alienware m18 packs a 97Wh battery and the Alienware m16 comes with an 86Wh battery. However, both can be charged with a 330W power adapter.

They are equipped with an Alienware full-HD webcam with dual-array microphones and Windows Hello IR support. The Alienware m16 gets the AlienFX keyboard as standard, whereas the Alienware m18 features the AlienFX RGB keyboard. These gaming laptops feature Alienware Cryo-Tech Cooling technology along with copper alloy thermal components. In addition, the vapour chamber cooling technology covers both the CPU and GPU.

The Alienware x16 gets a 16-inch QHD+ ComfortView Plus display and the Alienware x14 R2 features a 14-inch QHD+ ComfortView Plus screen. They offer a 165Hz refresh rate with a 3ms response time. Under the hood, they pack 13th Gen Intel Core processors, coupled with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 series dedicated graphics card. In addition, the Alienware x14 R2 can also feature an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 6GB graphics card.

These laptops get up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 4TB of onboard M.2 SSD storage. All configurations come with support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies. The Alienware x14 R2 gets an 80.5Wh battery and the Alienware x16 packs a 90Wh battery. They run on Windows 11 Home (64-bit).

The Alienware x16 gets a per-key AlienFX RGB keyboard, whereas the Alienware x14 R2 features a 1-Zone AlienFX keyboard. They are said to be programmable with up to 16.8 million distinct colours. These laptops come with Alienware Cryo-Tech Cooling and vapour chamber cooling technologies. They feature Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth v5.3 wireless connectivity.

Alienware Aurora R15 specifications, features

The Alienware Aurora R15 is the company's flagship gaming PC that comes equipped with an AMD AM5 B650 motherboard. It gets its power from AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors. Customers will get the option of picking between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3000 series and the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series dedicated graphics card. It can also come with an RTX 4090 24GB graphics card.

This gaming PC comes with up to 128GB of dual-channel DDR5 RAM and up to 4TB of onboard storage. The Alienware Aurora R15 features up to 1,350W Platinum-rated power supply, along with Alienware Cryo-Tech Edition CPU liquid cooling. It measures 510x589x225mm and weighs about 16.96kg, the company says. For connectivity, it gets Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth v5.3 support.

This gaming monitor has a 24.5-inch full-HD (1,920x1,080 pixels) IPS display with up to 500Hz refresh rate, a 0.5ms grey-to-grey (GtG) response time, and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It comes with Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer for reduced latency and Nvidia G-Sync technologies for a smooth gaming experience. This gaming monitor is equipped with two HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort 1.4, four SuperSpeed USB downstream ports, a SuperSpeed USB upstream port, a headphone out port, an audio out port, and a security lock slot.

It features a hexagonal base for a small footprint and saves desk space. The Alienware AW2524H is equipped with a height-adjustable stand that also offers tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustability. The stand also comes with a built-in cable management system. The monitor is equipped with customisable AlienFX RGB lighting as well.
