India's decision to ban vaccine exports has had a severe impact on 91 nations dependent on Serum Institute of India's (SII) products, including the AstraZeneca vaccine (Covishield) and the forthcoming Novavax. With inadequate stocks, these countries, several of them in Africa, remain extremely susceptible to new strains of Covid, including B.1.617.2, first discovered in India, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said. Mehul Choksi Captured In Dominica, Other Top Stories

Fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi - one of India's most wanted in connection with the Punjab National Bank loan fraud case - has been captured from Dominica while trying to flee to Cuba, sources have said. The 62-year-old had gone missing earlier this week from the Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, where he fled in 2018. His disappearance came amid efforts to extradite him by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, which are investigating the Rs. 14,000 crore fraud at India's second largest state owned bank. The Union Home Ministry is likely to announce new guidelines for Covid, as the present one ends on May 31. Towards the end of every month, the ministry issues fresh nationwide Covid directives or extends the existing ones till the end of the next month. In continuation with this, the government will most likely issue directives for June today.

In Haryana, Law For Recovery Of Damage To Property During Protests

A law which allows the authorities to recover compensation from violent protesters who cause damage to property has come into effect in Haryana. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said on Wednesday that the Act was notified by the state government earlier this month. "With the implementation of the Act in the state, any damage done to people's shops, houses, government offices, vehicles, buses and other public property in guise of any movement will be recovered from the protesters," he said, as per an official statement. कोरोना वायरस की वैक्सीन को लेकर लोगों में भ्रांतियां हैं. कोविड के टीके से डरने वाले सिर्फ उत्तरप्रदेश या बिहार में ही नहीं हैं, महाराष्ट्र में भी हैं. मुंबई में जहां लोगों को चाहकर भी वैक्सीन नहीं मिल पा रही है वहीं मुंबई से सटे पालघर जिले के आदिवासी बाहुल्य इलाकों में लोग वैक्सीन लगवाने को तैयार नहीं हैं. इन इलाकों के टीकाकरण केंद्र सूने पड़े हैं. आदिवासियों को लगता है कि टीका लगवाने से उनकी मौत हो जाएगी. यही कारण है कि लोग वैक्सीन लगवाने के लिए आगे नहीं आ रहे हैं.

Maharashtra on Saturday reported 26,133 fresh COVID-19 cases and 682 deaths, taking the tally to 55,53,225 and the death count to 87,300, the state health department said.
