Amid Chennai Water Crisis, Work Begins On Desalination Plant 6 Years Late

After a delay of six years, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami led the ground-breaking ceremony for an additional desalination plant at Nemmeli, in the outskirts of Chennai, on Thursday. This comes at the height of the worst drought Chennai has seen in decades.

Late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had first spoken about the desalination plant on the floor of the state assembly in 2013. Once set up, the Rs. 1,259-crore project is expected to provide 150 million litres a day (MLD) of potable water to the city from 2021. The government also plans to begin work on another plant with a capacity of 400 MLD, which will be the second-largest unit of the kind, in the near future.

At the elite, specialised government hospital in Firozabad town, western Uttar Pradesh, the biggest government health facility in the area, not a single ultrasound has been performed in the last 24 hours. There is just one radiologist at the hospital and he has fractured his hand - meaning all the patients are being forced to go to expensive private hospitals. Ideally, a government hospital at this level should have at least 5 doctors, who can perform ultrasounds. "We had two doctors earlier. One retired last year... We are trying to minimise inconvenience to patients. The doctor who is hurt, hopes to be back soon," says Dr RK Pandey, the Chief Medical Officer of Firozabad. Across the state, glaring gaps in infrastructure, manpower and delivery mechanisms in government hospitals have led to UP placing at the bottom of the country's health rankings again.

दिल्ली के नरेला इलाक़े में 2 बाइक सवार बदमाशों ने एक आढ़ती को गोली मारकर उससे पैसों से भरा बैग लूट लिया. खबर के मुताबिक बैग में 18 लाख रुपये थे. ये पूरी घटना CCTV में क़ैद हो गई. बदमाशों ने पहले बाइक से जा रहे आढ़ती को ओवरटेक कर रोका और फिर बैग छीनने की कोशिश की. आढ़ती के विरोध करने पर एक बदमाश ने उसके पैर में गोली मार दी और फिर बैग छीनकर फरार हो गया. पुलिस ने केस दर्ज कर जांच शुरू कर दी है.

A journalist was shot at by a group of masked men while she was in her car at east Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave, the police said today. Mitali Chandola, who lives in Noida, was driving her Hyundai i20 car around 12:30 am on Sunday when a Maruti Swift suddenly overtook her, the police said. Some masked men inside the car fired two shots at her, the police said, adding the bullets pierced through the front windshield and one of them hit her hand. Ms Chandola told the police the attackers also threw eggs on her car's windshield before accelerating away.

Over 12,000 Farmers Committed Suicide In 3 Years: Maharashtra Government

More than 12,000 farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra between 2015 and 2018, the Legislative Assembly was informed Friday. कुल्लू: गहरे नाले में गिरी बस, 44 लोगों की मौत

हिमाचल प्रदेश के कुल्लू जिले में एक बस के गहरे नाले में गिर जाने से 44 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 30 से अधिक घायल हो गए हैं. कुल्लू की पुलिस अधीक्षक शालिनी अग्निहोत्री ने कहा कि निजी बस जिले की बंजार तहसील में धोथ मोड़ के पास 300 मीटर गहरे नाले में गिर गई. बस में क्षमता से अधिक यात्री सवार थे. बंजार पटवारी शीतल कुमार ने बताया कि शुरुआती जांच में पता चला है कि यह बस अपनी क्षमता से अधिक यात्रियों को ढो रही थी और उसके चालक ने ध्यान से गाड़ी नहीं चलाई. बस कुल्लु से गड़ गुशानी जा रही थी.

यूपी के बरेली में गंभीर रूप से बीमार 5 दिन की एक बच्ची के इलाज में लापरवाही बरतने के आरोप में मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने जिला अस्पताल के मुख्य चिकित्सा अधीक्षक डॉ कमलेंद्र स्वरूप गुप्ता को निलंबित कर दिया है. इसी मामले में जिला महिला अस्पताल की सीएमएस डॉ अलका शर्मा के खिलाफ विभागीय जांच के आदेश दिए गए हैं. जानकारी के अनुसार बीमार बच्ची को लेकर उसके पिता जिला अस्पताल पहुंते तो वहां बाल रोग विशेषज्ञ होने के बाद भी उसका इलाज न कर उसे महिला अस्पताल भेज दिया गया. महिला अस्पताल में भी बच्ची का इलाज नहीं किया गया और उसे वापस जिला अस्पताल भेज दिया गया. इस दौरान बच्ची के पिता डॉक्टरों के सामने गिड़गिड़ाते रहे लेकिन किसी ने उनकी बात नहीं सुनी. करीब 3 घंटे दोनों अस्पतालों के बीच आने-जाने के दौरान बच्ची ने दादी की गोद में ही दम तोड़ दिया था.

यूपी पुलिस ने मुस्तैदी दिखाते हुए चंद घंटों के भीतर एक बच्चे को अपहरणकर्ताओं के चंगुल से छुड़ा लिया. मामला आगरा के रकाबगंज थाना क्षेत्र का है. जहां एलआईसी अफसर के 14 साल के बेटे को उसकी कार समेत अगवा कर लिया गया. घटना की जानकारी मिलते ही एसएसपी जोगेंद्र कुमार ने खुद मोर्चा संभाला. पूरे जिले में नाकाबंदी कर दी गई. सघन तलाशी के दौरान खदौली के एक गांव के पास अपहरणकर्ताओं को घेर लिया गया. पुलिस को देखते ही अपरहणकर्ता बच्चे को कार में छोड़कर फरार हो गए. एसएसपी अपनी टीम के साथ बदमाशों की धर-पकड़ में लगे हैं.
