'Nari Shakti'? Sorry, Not Yet: Opposition Defeats Women Quota Bill

The bill to amend the Women's Reservation Bill failed to clear a key hurdle after the Centre could not secure the votes needed for its passage in the Lok Sabha on Friday. 

The Centre needed a two-thirds majority to get the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, passed, but fell short of the mark. The proposed legislation saw 298 MPs voting in its favour and 230 voting against.

Two other bills, including one for delimitation and increasing the number of seats in the Lok Sabha, were not put to vote after the first one failed, with the Centre saying they were "intrinsically linked" to the legislation related to women's reservation.

छापेमारी का पूरा नाटक किया जाता था. कागज. सवाल. धमकी. सब कुछ फर्जी. डर के मारे जब लोग घबरा जाते, तो सेटलमेंट के नाम पर उन्हें सीधे अशोक खरात से जोड़ा जाता था. पूरी सेटिंग पहले से फिक्स होती थी. अधिकारी भी उसके. और शिकार भी उसी के भक्त. मामले को दबाने के बदले लाखों से लेकर करोड़ों रुपए वसूले जाते थे.

132 फर्जी बैंक खातों की जांच में इस पूरे रैकेट का खुलासा हुआ. अब कई पीड़ित सामने आने लगे हैं.
पुलिस को शक है कि इसके पीछे एक बड़ा नेटवर्क काम कर रहा है. महिलाओं से शोषण और धोखाधड़ी के कुल 12 मामलों में नामजद अशोक खरात. जांच जारी है. और कहानी अभी खत्म नहीं हुई.

Puducherry Elections 2026 | Who Will Win Puducherry? | Vanakkam Puducherry

The Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) sealed deal for the Puducherry Legislative Assembly elections on the last day of filing nominations on Monday. While the national party will contest in 16 constituencies, the DMK will fight on 14 seats. The understanding comes after days of hard bargaining by the two parties. Both had even filed nominations for all seats triggering a new level of tension. In the 2021 assembly polls, Congress fought 14 seats but had won only 6 while it's ally, the DMK, fought 13 and won 2. The NR Congress-BJP alliance had captured power. The Puducherry settlement comes after a long heated exchange between both parties in neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Initially the DMK offered less than Congress's 2021 tally of 25 seats. The Congress was persistent and often loud in criticism and demanding share in power, leveraging on the possibility of aligning with actor Vijay's TVK. Ultimately the DMK offered 28 seats, and a Rajya Sabha ticket to the Congress.

'Hormuz Open To All Except...': Iran President Hits Back After Trump's 48-Hour Ultimatum

As tensions escalate in the Middle East, the battle over the Strait of Hormuz continues to intensify. After US President Donald Trump's ultimatum over the opening of Hormuz, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has now hit back. 

In a series of posts, Trump issued a direct ultimatum over the strategic waterway, saying: "If Iran doesn't FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS… the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!"

Reacting to the US President's warning, Iran President in his X post said, "The illusion of erasing Iran from the map shows desperation against the will of a history-making nation. Threats and terror only strengthen our unity. The Strait of Hormuz is open to all except those who violate our soil. We firmly confront delirious threats on the battlefield."

In another statement earlier in the day, the Iranian military's operational command, Khatam Al-Anbiya, said, "If the United States' threats regarding Iran's power plants are carried out... the Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed, and it will not be reopened until our destroyed power plants are rebuilt."

US KC-135 Tanker Crash Over Iraq, What It Reveals About War Transparency

Four of six crew members on the United States Air Force KC-135 aircraft that crashed in western Iraq have died, the US' Central Command said in an X post Friday afternoon. Efforts to rescue the other two are ongoing, CENTCOM said.

A day after India said it had launched a search-and-rescue mission after a US submarine attacked an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka, government sources have revealed that India has allowed another Iranian vessel to dock in Kochi. 

IRIS Dena, a Moudge-class frigate, was torpedoed by a US submarine 40 nautical miles off Galle in southern Sri Lanka on the morning of Wednesday, March 4, while it was returning to Iran after participating in the MILAN multilateral naval exercise. 'More Congress Leaders Will Join': Assam's Bhupen Borah After Meeting Amit Shah

Former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah, who recently announced he'd join the ruling BJP in the poll-bound state, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah this evening.Borah told NDTV that more Congress leaders are preparing to leave the party and join the BJP by March 8. "I told Amit Shah that many Congress leaders would be joining," he said. Borah praised Shah for "thinking in terms of generations" and not just current politics in making strategy. The former Congress leader also took what appeared to be a swipe at Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over "not smiling". "I have always seen her cheerful in Assam campaigns. But this time she seemed concerned and worried," Borah told NDTV.

Vande Mataram Hits Communal Veto Wall

'Vande Mataram', the national song, must be played  before the national anthem, i.e., 'Jana, Gana, Mana' at all government events and in all schools, the Union Home Ministry said in new rules issued Wednesday morning. The new rules also require all persons to stand when 'Vande Mataram' is played.

The national song must now also be played at civilian awards ceremonies, like the Padma awards, and all other events attended by the President, during their arrival and departure. It will also be played in public spaces like cinema halls, though standing up is not mandatory in this instance.

Congress Attacks PM Modi After Donald Trump’s Russia Oil Claim

Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan's bizarre comments asking whether what happened with Venezuela could happen with India led to a barrage of ridicule and jokes on social media, all pointed at him.

Referring to the nighttime US military action in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolas Maduro, the Congress leader asked a question, which many on social media took as a joke due to its absurdity: "... Will something like what happened in Venezuela happen in India? Will Mr Trump kidnap our prime minister?"

Former Jammu and Kashmir top cop SP Vaid slammed the Congress leader for saying something that was "humiliating for the entire country". Many on social media described Chavan's comments with words like "brain dead", "illiterate", "fool", etc, pointing out the ridiculousness of it all, especially with a nuclear power like India.

Chavan, who has served as Maharashtra chief minister and a Union minister during his long career, picked up from where Kharge left in his attack on PM Modi over the US' steep tariffs on India.
